To Selena with Love by Chris Perez

Hello everybody and welcome to today's post. I read To Selena with Love a while ago and it touched my heart so much I knew I had to share with you all. I grew up in the 90s and while that decade gave us a lot of cool things and people one of the coolest was Selena Quintanilla. To some she was the Queen of Tejano music, to others she was an amazing performer and friend, but - as you'll learn if you read this book - to Chris Perez (her husband) she was the light of his world. Chris wrote this book as a way to share some of his good memories with her fans.

Because this is a biography and not a fictional book I'm not going to break this post up into a "Characters" and "Conflict" section. Instead, I'm going to share some of my thoughts on the book.

Growing up as a Mexican-American in the 90s there weren't a lot of performers out there that I could relate to. But all that changed when my dad introduced me to Selena and Tejano music. She became my role model because not only was she Mexican-American like me, she was talented and a hard worker with a lot of drive. Someone to look up to. And as you can imagine I became a fan really quickly and even though I was a only a little girl when she died, I remember how much the pain of losing her affected the Latino community. When I learned that Chris had written this book I couldn't wait to read it and I'm really glad I did.

In the book you get a glimpse of Selena through the eyes of someone who knew her really well - her husband. And the more I read his side of things I realized that there was a lot about Selena that we, as fans, didn't know. She was so much more than an amazing entertainer, she was a real person with real feelings. This book allows you to see a side of an icon that honestly, I don't think we ever would have been able to see if Chris hadn't wrote it down.

He started off by recounting how they first met. And he even described different conversations they had and really took his time in painting a portrait of their relationship. Even though this was a biography I found that it read more like a novel. I could tell by the way he wrote about her that he loved her dearly and her loss affected him greatly.

This book is a beautiful testimony to not only music icon but to a love that Chris and Selena shared. I recommend you read it even if you're not a Selena or Tejano music fan because there's so much more to her story than music or her untimely death. This book will touch your heart and it'll leave you appreciating Chris for sharing some of his memories with us.

A must read for Selena fans everywhere. Simple as that.
