Girl Online by Zoe Sugg (Zoella)

Image
Hello everyone and welcome back to A Blog Full of Books. I've been an avid fan of Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella) on YouTube for a few years now so you can imagine my excitement when I got my hands on her first young adult fiction book: Girl Online. And I must say I enjoyed it more than I originally thought I would. It was funny, smart, original, and an all-around, feel-good book. So let's dive into the review, shall we >>>>> The Characters   Girl Online is the story of Penny Porter, your average, British teen battling anxiety and the struggles of every day, high school life. She has loving parents, an awesome big brother, the best Best Friend in the world named Elliot, and a blog. No one (other than Elliot, of course) knows about her blog, which is called Girl Online, and through this blog Penny shares her deepest, secret thoughts with the world anonymously . . . or so she thinks. There's also a really cute named Noah but we'll get to him in a few moments...

The Ladies of Ivy Cottage by Julie Klassen

Image
Hello everyone and welcome to another book review. Today's book is The Ladies of Ivy Cottage by Julie Klassen and it was a really good read. It's the second book in Klassen's Tales of From Ivy Hill series and let me tell you I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. I love all things set in Regency England - from movies to books - and I've found that if you're looking for a fantastic Regency book you've got to check out Julie Klassen's books. You won't be disappointed and this book was no exception.   If you read The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill then you have to check out the next installment in the series. This book picks up right where the first one left off and I found myself falling back into Klassen's world. Ivy Hill reminds me a little of the community I grew up in - everybody knows everybody and everybody wants to know everybody's business. But at the end of the day everybody really cares for each other.   But on to the ...

To Selena with Love by Chris Perez

Image
Hello everybody and welcome to today's post. I read To Selena with Love  a while ago and it touched my heart so much I knew I had to share with you all. I grew up in the 90s and while that decade gave us a lot of cool things and people one of the coolest was Selena Quintanilla. To some she was the Queen of Tejano music, to others she was an amazing performer and friend, but - as you'll learn if you read this book - to Chris Perez (her husband) she was the light of his world. Chris wrote this book as a way to share some of his good memories with her fans. Because this is a biography and not a fictional book I'm not going to break this post up into a "Characters" and "Conflict" section. Instead, I'm going to share some of my thoughts on the book. Growing up as a Mexican-American in the 90s there weren't a lot of performers out there that I could relate to. But all that changed when my dad introduced me to Selena and Tejano music. She became ...

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen

Image
Hello, everybody, and welcome to today's post. I just finished Julie Klassen's novel The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill and I must say it was one of the most entertaining books I've read so far this year. Julie Klassen is one my favorite authors and with her new book series she's outdone herself. If you're a Downton Abbey or Jane Austen fan definitely check out her books. She has an undeniable way of transporting you back in time and making you feel like you're right there with the characters. And this book wasn't any different.  The story begins with Jane Bell grieving the loss of her husband, John, who was killed in a carriage accident. In his will, John leaves his family's inn to Jane and she feels completely incapable of taking on the responsibility of running it. Luckily, her mother-in-law, Thora, moves back home and tries to help Jane learn the ropes of innkeeping. But for now let's jump into the review >>>>> The Characters This...

Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber

Image
If you liked Twilight then you'll love the Vampire Kisses series. First off, this series has 9 books and each one is better than the last. But personally, the first book has always been my favorite. This book had me laughing out loud. Honestly, while I reading some of the dialogue I started giggling like a loon. My mom was like, "Are you ok?" And I couldn't answer her because it would've taken too long to explain where I was in the book. Talk about #booknerdproblems. But let's jump into the review, shall we >>>>> The Characters: This book has a few characters but the main one is a girl named Raven. Raven is the only goth girl in her town aptly called Dullsville and while she does have 1 best friend (a farm girl named Becky) she's kind of a town outcast because of her cryptic style. But she's got a great sense of humor and doesn't let the haters get her down, especially not Trevor - the most popular boy in school who has ...

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Image
I've never read a book that I wasn't sure if I liked or not until I picked up Sabaa Tahir's "An Ember in the Ashes." Let's just say this story was definitely unlike anything I've ever read - which is one of the main reasons I couldn't put it down. If you're looking for your next YA series that's interesting, intriguing, and action-packed this book is my top pick for you. So let's get into the review, shall we? The Characters The story is told from two points of view, the main characters- Elias and Laia. Laia is part of a people called the Scholars. They are inferior to Elias' group, the Martials, and seem to be the weaker group. That is, until we meet the Scholar Resistance (but that's farther down the line). During a Martial raid Laia watches her grandparents get murdered and her brother arrested. In one night her entire world is lost and she goes to the Scholar Resistance for help, only to find out that the Resistanc...

5 Books to Make You Feel Like A Star

Image
Books are amazing. Let me just state that for the record. They can take you to places you've only imagined or dreamed about. And can even change the way you look at the world around you. But the best kinds of books are the ones that show you how the other half live. The ones that let you be a rock star for a while or a big time movie star. So, with that in mind, here's a list of the 5 books I've read that made me feel like a star. 1. "Guitar Girl" by Sarra Manning Besides the Bible, this book is probably my favorite book. It's funny, it's relatable, and it's about rock stars. What more do you need? It's about a British girl named Molly who starts a band with her friends and shoots to super stardom. The story follows the group as they journey from a little garage band to the big time. Along the way, Molly finds love, heartbreak, and the adventure of a life time. 2. "Diary of a Teenage Girl: Chloe series" by Melody C...
